2025 SEASON NEWSLETTER

Dear Members,

The 2025 river season has now opened, and the lochs will be opening on 01 April.

The committee would like to make you aware of some important changes for the season ahead.

Butterstone Loch

  1. The loch will open for anglers on 01 April 2025. We have recently re-stocked with quality fish and with a good head of over wintered fish anticipate excellent fishing.
  2. There will be 7 boats available for booking online via the DBBA website.
  3. In addition, there will be 2 boats available for booking from the shop in Birnam – please ensure you have a copy of your 2025 Membership and at the end of the day drop your permit with catch returns into the returns box at the harbour.
  4. As a trial, Evening Permits will be available for the 2025 season but can only be booked online on the day of fishing after 14:00. Permits are £17 per rod and have a limit of 1 fish per angler. Fishing must not commence before 17:00.
  5. Online bookings require an online catch return. Further bookings cannot be made until returns are submitted – its useful for restocking purposes that members make their returns in a timely manner.
  6. Members are politely requested to clean their boat after fishing.

Balhomish

  1. We will be stocking Balhomish before the start of the season. There is a national shortage of Brown Trout stock and we have been fortunate that our current supplier will provide us with fish. However, the fish will be larger than what we normally stock and the price per fish will significantly exceed the price of a day ticket. Therefore, we ask our Balhomish faithful to consider fishing on a catch and release basis for fish in excess of 2lb.
  2. Balhomish has in the past been targeted by poachers. Members are requested to report any suspicious activity to any of the committee.
  3. The access road highlighted in red was recently found to be blocked. The road in yellow has recently been repaired – please report any problems and we will contact the Forestry Commission.

River Fishing

  1. A significant number of members did not submit returns for 2024. Members are requested to submit a return, even if you did not fish or have no fish to report. We are obliged to submit detailed returns to each of the riparian owners as a condition of lease. We will be looking to implement a better returns system for 2025.
  2. The Catch returns we did receive indicate we have healthy fish stocks in our beats – please fish them!

The club recommends that all our members and their guests wear a life preserver when on or near the water. We wish all our members a safe and rewarding 2025 Season and look forward to meeting you out on the water.
